The internet is flooded with tool reviews that are little more than rewritten manufacturer spec sheets or affiliate link lists created by writers who have never stepped foot in a woodshop. At M3Tools, we believe you deserve better. Here is our promise and the methodology behind every review we publish.
Our Core Philosophy: Shop-Tested, Independent
We do not accept paid sponsorships, and we do not receive free tools in exchange for positive reviews. Every tool, router bit, and chisel we test is purchased retail. We test them in a real working shop under real-world conditions—not display room lighting. If a tool performs poorly, we say so. Our business model depends on your trust.
The Testing Methodology
To keep our reviews objective, we evaluate three primary criteria:
- Runout and Tolerances: We use dial indicators to measure shaft and spindle runout down to 0.0001 inches.
- Edge Retention: We run tools through dense, abrasive hardwoods (such as white oak and hard maple) and measure dulling under a magnification loupe.
- Thermal Control: We use infrared thermometers to measure heat buildup on cutting edges, which causes burning.

However, our verdicts are decided by Derek Voss at the bench long before Lena Fitch formats the affiliate links. Transparency is our greatest asset.
